Henri Matisse’s Jazz, one of the most impactful artist’s books of the 20th century, is being shown in its entirety for the very first time at the Art Institute of Chicago since its 1948 acquisition. Matisse’s Jazz is most well-known for its vibrant paper cut-outs and handwritten text. This artist’s book was created while the influential artist was bedridden. The exhibition will be on view until June 1, 2026.

The Intuit Art Museum, an institution focused on folk & outsider art, is showing Drawing with Metal: Sculpture by Bill Brady through October 4, 2026. This exhibition puts craftsmanship imbued with whimsicality on display. Made with flat sheets of tin-plated steel (roofing tin) and welding rods, Brady’s sculptures are hammered and soldered together, sometimes including marbles and paint, with surfaces left to age.
